Daniel Greco Costa, tanındığı adıyla Dan Costa, 1989’da Londra’da dünyaya geldi. Ailesi İtalyan ve Portekiz kökenli olan piyanist altı yıl boyunca Académie de Musique Rainier III’de klasik müzik eğitimi gördü. Liverpool, İngiltere’deki Sir Paul McCartney’s Institute for Performing Arts’tan dereceyle mezun oldu. Daha sonra Latin kökeni ve caza olan ilgisi onu Portekiz’deki Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo’ya götürdü ve buranın jazz piano bölümünden yine dereceyle mezun oldu. Daha sonra eğitimine Berklee College of Music’te devam etti.

Bugüne kadar Kevin Hays, Scott Colley, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jorge Rossy, Chick Corea ve Cesar Camargo Mariano gibi isimlerle çalıştı. İngiltere, Fransa, Finlandiya, Almanya, İspanya, Yunanistan ve A.B.D.’de orkestralar ve büyük orkestralarla çaldı, bir çok projede piyanist ve besteci olarak sahne aldı. Ocak 2016’da ilk albümü olan “Suite Três Rios”u Rio de Janeiro’da kaydetti. Albümde Dan Costa’ya Jaques Morelenbaum, Ricardo Silveira, Teco Cardoso, Rafael Barata, Marcos Suzano ve Leila Pinheiro eşlik etti. Albüm Portekiz’de iTunes jazz listesinde birinci olurken tüm müzik türlerinin yer aldığı listede ise ilk 10’a girdi. Amerika’da ise CMJ Top Adds Chart’ta birinci sıraya yükseldi ve Roots Music Report listesinde ise haftalarca ilk 10’da kaldı. Albüm A.B.D., Rusya, Kanada ve Brezilya’da çok iyi yorumlar alırken Down Beat tarafından yılın en iyi albümlerinden biri olarak değerlendirildi.

Mayıs 2018’de yeni albümü ‘’Skyness’’i İtalya’da Roberto Menescal, Jorge Helder, Teco Cardoso, Custodio Castelo, Romero Lubambo, Nelson Faria ve Seamus Blake ile birlikte kaydetti. Albüm aynı yılın Kasım ayında Blue Note etiketiyle piyasaya çıktı. Albümde yer alan ‘’Compelling’’ isimli parça JAZZIZ dergisinin 2019 yaz albümünde yer aldı. Dan Costa bu projesini İtalya, Yunanistan, Mısır, Brezilya, Hindistan, Kıbrıs, Portekiz, İspanya ve Lübnan’da sahneledi.

Daniel Greco Costa, known as Dan Costa, was born in 1989 in London (UK) to an Italian and Portuguese family. He initially studied classical piano for six years at the Académie de Musique Rainier III in the south of France, and underwent further classical training at the Académie Internationale d’Été de Nice as well as at the Aurora Music Star Festival in Sweden. He was awarded a diploma with merit at Sir Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts in the UK. His strong interest in his Latin roots coupled with his passion for jazz led him to study at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo in Portugal, where he graduated in jazz piano with an award for outstanding achievement, bestowed upon him by Rotary Club Porto-Foz in 2015. During his course, he was also awarded a merit grant to study Brazilian music at UNICAMP – Universidade Estadual de Campinas (São Paulo, Brazil). He pursued further musical studies at Berklee College of Music.

He has attended workshops coached by musicians such as Kevin Hays, Scott Colley, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jorge Rossy, Chick Corea and César Camargo Mariano. He has co-directed musicals, performed with orchestras and big bands, and starred as both a pianist and composer in projects in countries such as the UK, France, Finland, Germany, Spain, Greece and the USA.

In January 2016, he recorded his debut album “Suite Três Rios” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with musicians such as Jaques Morelenbaum, Ricardo Silveira, Teco Cardoso, Rafael Barata, Marcos Suzano and Leila Pinheiro. It peaked at #1 on the iTunes Jazz Chart and Top 10 across all genres in Portugal, prior to hitting the #1 slot on the CMJ Top Adds Chart in the USA and being top 10 for several weeks on Roots Music Report. One of the best albums of the year for Down Beat Magazine, it achieved rave reviews from countries such as the USA, Russia, Canada and Brazil.

In May 2018 he recorded his new album “Skyness” at Arte Suono in Italy, featuring Roberto Menescal, Jorge Helder, Teco Cardoso, Custodio Castelo, Romero Lubambo, Nelson Faria and Seamus Blake, released officially at Blue Note Rio in November. The track “Compelling” was featured by JAZZIZ Magazine on their Summer 2019 Album. Dan has recently presented his project in countries such as Italy, Greece, Egypt, Brazil, India, Cyprus, Portugal, Spain and Lebanon.
