Meriden, Connecticut doğumlu Brian Charette 17 yaşında Lou Donaldson ve Houston Person gibi isimlerle sahne almaya başladı. New York jazz dünyasının önemli simalarından biri olan müzisyen Avrupa ve Amerika’nın en önemli konser mekanları ve festivallerinde sahne aldı. Hammond firmasının orglarını temsil eden, Steeplechase ve Positone plak şirketleriyle çalışan sanatçı 2014 yılında org dalında Downbeat dergisi tarafından ‘yükselen yıldız’ seçildi. 2018 yılında ise yine Hammond org dalında beşinci oldu. 2015 yılında Hot House Magazine tarafından New York’un en iyi Hammond orgcusu seçildi. Positone’dan çıkan son albümü ‘Once and Future’ listelerde 17. sıraya kadar yükseldi ve iTunes listelerinde ise son çıkan albümler listesinde müzik türünden bağımsız olarak ilk yirmide yer aldı. Beraber sahne aldığı isimle arasında Joni Mitchell, Chaka Khan, Paul Simon ve Cyndi Lauper gibi popüler isimler de yer almakta. Yazarlık ve eğitmenliğe de devam eden Charette, Keyboard Magazine, The New York City Jazz Record, Down Beat, Muzikus gibi dergilerde yazıyor ve Prag’daki Czech Summer Jazz Workshop’larında masterclass’lar veriyor.
Güney Afrika doğumlu Melanie Scholtz, opera dalında Cape Town Üniversitesi’nde eğitim gördü. Bugüne kadar kendi albümleri de dahil olmak üzere beş albümde yer aldı. 2012 yılında Nice’te yapılan Jazz a Juan Festivali kapsamındaki Jazz Revelations yarışmasındaki üç ödülü de kazanıp bir sonraki sene aynı festivalde sahne aldı. Çek Cumhuriyeti başta olmak üzere Avrupa’da düzenli olarak konserler veren vokalist 2011 yılında Anjazz Festivali’nde Bobby McFerrin ile, 2012’de ise Joy of Jazz Festivali’nde ise Kurt Elling ile konserler verdi. Melanie Scholtz’un müziği dinleyicinin en iyi dostu olarak anlatılıyor. Sanatçının müzikal dürüstlüğüyle kurulan bu ilişki Scholtz’un kendine has tonuyla dinleyiciye ulaşıyor.

New York City organist/pianist, Brian Charette, has established himself as a leading voice in modern jazz. Charette is a Hammond-endorsed, Steeplechase and Positone recording artist who was the winner of the 2014 Downbeat Critics’ Poll Rising Star: Organ award and has climbed to 5th place in The 2018 Critic’s Poll main organ category. In 2015 Brian also won Hot House Magazine’s Fan’s Decision Jazz Award for Best Organist in New York. His last Positone recording, Once and Future, reached #17 on the Jazz Week chart and was also on the Itunes new music Top 20. This fall, Brian released his new circuit bent organ trio recording, Kürrent, featuring Ben Monder and has a brand new traditional jazz organ trio release on Steeplechase Records featuring NEA Master, George Coleman called Groovin with Big G.
Charette was born in Meriden, Connecticut in 1972, and was introduced to music by his mother, Catherine. By the age of 17, he was playing with jazz luminaries such as Lou Donaldson and Houston Person. Since graduating on the Dean’s List from UConn in 1994 with a BA in Music, Charette has been performing extensively in Europe and the USA with his home base being the East Village, NYC. Brian is a staple of the downtown NYC scene working with virtually everyone who plays with an organist.
Besides being a critically acclaimed composer and bandleader, Brian has performed with many notable artists such as Joni Mitchell, Chaka Khan, Paul Simon, Cyndi Lauper, and many more. Charette is also an active author and educator, writing for Keyboard Magazine, The New York City Jazz Record, DownBeat, and the Czech magazine, Muzikus. Brian teaches masterclasses all over the world and is on the faculty of the Czech Summer Jazz Workshop at Jesek Conservatory in Prague. His first book, 101 Hammond B3 Tips, released through publisher Hal Leonard, has become very popular, as well as his videos on the website, mymusicmasterclass.com.
Outside of music, Charette is passionate about chess and White Crane kung fu, in which he holds a black sash.
Melanie Scholtz is a South African born, award winning jazz singer and composer. Playing piano since the age of 5, she went on to study classical singing at the Eoan Group before completing an Opera Diploma Cum Laude at the University of Cape Town in 2000. Melanie has released 5 albums under her own name thus far as well as collaborating with many South African and international jazz artists.
In 2012, Melanie won all three prizes in the prestigious Jazz Revelations competition as part of the Jazz a Juan Festival held in Nice, France. She was invited to be part of the festival programme in 2013.
Melanie tours regularly to the Czech Republic and has also performed in Norway, France, Germany,Slovakia, Holland, Morocco, Portugal and Spain. She has been involved in the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown for the past 6 years as a performer and teacher as well as with the Artscape Youth Jazz programme since 2006. Melanie has also lectured at the University of Cape Town from 2004-2005. In 2010, Melanie was named the Standard Bank Young Artist for jazz and continues to be involved in upcoming projects and recordings involving other Young Artist Award recipients. She has also shared an impromptu duet with Bobby McFerrin during his show at Anjazz jazz festival in May 2011 and was also invited as part of the Joy of Jazz festival in Aug 2012, to guest with Kurt Elling.
In 2013, Melanie launched Freedom’s child. Freedom’s child is a collaborative project with iconic poet James Matthews marrying poetry and jazz. Also in 2013, Melanie released her full length solo offering, produced by Bokani Dyer called “Our Time”.
The release of her two latest recordings was followed by a very successful Christmas tour to the Czech Republic in Dec 2013.
